i have 5 peacocks and a rtc in my tank....a pleco i had recently died and now the algae in the tank is starting to accumulate... i have some tablets for the water that clear the algae off the glass (which i have used with community fish and work great). i want to know if these are safe for my tank now. i would not be happy in the least bit if they had an adverse affect on my pb's and rtc.... opinions???

i couldnt tell you since i dont use chemicals but i can give you some advise. what type of lights are you using? check your nitrates to make sure they arent high. also rtc are scale-less so make sure the stuff doesnt affect scale-less fish or have coppers in it.

i to also try to stay away from chemicals but honestly ur best bet is to check to see what kind of light u have and cut back how long u have it on for bring it to like 7-8 hrs a day will help a lil, check ur nitrates, give a really good cleaning on the gravel with ur vac afterwords just incase u got somethin dead or extra fish food there raising nitrates. Also u can pick up the magnetic cleaner thin, its a magnet that one end goes inside the tank and other on outside and u can scrub ur walls with it, but depending how big ur rtc is becareful he doesn't try to grab it for a snack because some have before. and as boosten said b4 u add any chemicals make sure it wont effect ur rtc because he doesnt have scales.

It would be helpful to know what kind of table it is.. If it's green algae get a UV sterilizer and a mag float (the magnet Tunez was talking about). And all of the other stuff too. If it's brown algae then it may just be that it is a newer tank, if it is. It will go away with time.

i still got the brown stuff but it comes and goes kind of.. some green is starting to form here and there but its so little its not even funny. i still think its my lighting bc my nitrates are really low

I have some Hornwort in my sump tank and the allelochemical effect ward off algaes. Hornwort also takes up plenty of ammonia/nitrite/nitrate in high bioload tank. Of course you will need a light tube for your sump. Another option is to tie some to drift wood for your main tank if you do not have a sump tank. Pbass look great with some aquatic plants, that's why I am obsessed with monster planted tank. Good luck!

lol yea i run a refuge setup on my reeftank ;)
