As some of you may know I have had some ph issues from my other threads, but here is a re-cap. I had a steady 6.6 level for 5 months, I also had 2 small pieces of bogwood in my tank, I purchased a fairly bigger piece and put it in after a few hours of hot soaking(big mistake). In a few days it turned my ph to a 5.9-6.0 level. I decided to put crushed coral,a tsp at a time, into a mesh bag, then into my filter. I also did 4 gal. water changes 2 times a day, sometimes even more until it reached 6.6 again(measurement on the coral added up to 3 tblsp.). I also took out all of the bogwood.
I took a ph reading this evening and found that my level is up to just about 7.2,I took out 1 tblsp. of coral to see if it will come down a little. My level from the tap is also 7.2,so what I was wondering,if it continues on a steady 7.2 after all the coral is out, would be safe to put the same small pieces of bogwood back into my tank to level it to 6.6 again? It has been washed in the dishwasher a few times(without detergent) and has been soaked. Will it be safe to assume that I will not have the same problem as before? The larger piece I will leave out. I have 4 danios, 2 peacock gudgeons,a male and 2 female gouramis, and 2 bolivian rams.

It's an easy fix, soak your wood for a week or so to take out most of the chemicals in the bogwood that lowers your pH.

Forget about the crushed coral, since that's not a permanent fix for pH fluctuation. As you do your regular water changes, the pH will settle back to a steady measurement.

The main reason for the coral was to give a boost to my ph level, to help get it back to where it was before, not a permanent fix by no means. I've soaked, and dishwashed my bogwood and will test the ph level this morning to see if there is any change. I've also tested the ph in my main tank and the level is still 7.2 so I will remove another tbls. of coral then test again this evening,if it remains at 7.2 I will take out the last tbls. and let it go over night and check it again in the morning. If there is still no change I will proceed to put back my original pieces of bogwood and hope all will go well. Thank you for your advice.
