Hey guys,

been a while since i've been really active on the forum. Currently have a few tanks set up still. One project is these two fish. Have had the female for maybe 4 years now (she has laid eggs more times than i can count) but was estatic to find this male over the summer. Any opinions on an outcome? They are currently divided in a 100 gallon waiting for female to drop the tube.
Assuming the babies will be

The male has an OK hump and they both have lots of RED. So you can predict that IF the female's father also had a decent hump then most of the male babies eventually will have good humps if fed properly in a clean environment. If the genes for red in both parents are in the same loci then the babies will all have good red color. If the genes for red in the parents are somewhat unrelated, or in different loci then the babies will have poor red color. The only way to know for sure is a test breeding and raising a sample of the fry out to adulthood. Only the female has significant turquoise spangles/pearls so it's likely that most of the fry will have less than the mother but it's possible that some could have as much as her but not more. I don't know a lot about flowerhorn body types but if they are from different flowerhorn "families", the best genes will be unpaired causing lower quality. Your best bet is to find out from a flowerhorn expert if they are from a single "type" or "family" of flowerhorn. If so, then there is a better chance of getting the best qualities from both parents.

I have seen show stoppers throw mixed quality fry and vice versa throw some show stoppers. Imo you never know, but to me that is the fun in it. Hybrids are unpredictable but rewarding.

Very nice male and female Red Dragon

So yeah, then if they are both Red Dragons, a lot of the best genes will find their matching gene at the right location and you have a better chance of getting good conformation.

Thanks for the input guys. I will update if anything happens!
