Just wanted to get some idea on a setup im planing to pick up from a friend. Its standard 180gallon 6x2x2 non drilled. Just bare tank and stand. Wondering what would be some opinion on filtration? Im not looking to drill. I was thinking of going with two fx5 and two hob ac70 (only able to fit the slots on top, ac110 wouldnt fit) to grow out on stingrays but im open to ideas to see alternatives.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I hav a 210 7x2x2 using 2 Fx5's. Works very well. wouldn't waste with HOB

Yeah I wanted the hob as well for the 10x the return rate of the tank. Fx5 is rated for 600 flow rate X 2 is 1200gph and plus the two AC70 which is 300 flow rate X 2 is 600 gph so total of 1800 return rate.

have you considered a sump and an fx5? I have a 55 Gallon sump and 2 fx5s on my 240 and ithey keep it nice and clean.

Chizzle,

I considered a sump but dont know if the U tube in the overflow would pick up gravitation to pull water on its own after a power outage. My other tank have internal overflow so I dont have to worry about it.

I use a CPR overflow and its driven by a Tom aquarium pump. I have the return pump and that Tom aquarium pump hooked up to the same power strip. So if a power outage occurs both the overflow and the pump should stop and when the power comes back on they should resume.
