hey just wondering what people think of the magnum 350. i see i can get one for around $100, or are there better canister filters i can get for that?

Best canister for $100? There are better ones as far as bio capacity since the magnum has a very small canister, and it is a powerhog. Hob filters might be better suited for what you're looking for. An ac110 costs about 75$ and moves over twice the amount of water, but....... I've had a magnum that's been in service for almost 20 years. It's not my only filter but they are workhorses. For extra mech or chemical filtration they are great. I Would recommend as a secondary or specialty filter. Just turned mine off to get ready for a water change. Oldest piece of gear I own

And $100 is a good price

I had several many years ago and I think they where great, at the time. I don't feel they have kept up with the times and are now inefficient and harder to maintain than many of the options we now have. I do have a newer marineland hang on canister that I use when I want to polish water or add more circulation for some reason.

I have a HOB 300 and a 350, the points above are to be reitterated

The HOB has been in use 20+ years and is awesome
The filter baskets are very small
They are good as a dedicated supplemental mech or chem add-on
I didn't use to mind maintenance until i got my fluvals and XPs

I wouldn't pay moar than $60 for a 350
opt for a RENA or the Magnum 300 HOB instead
The XP3 may be 50% moar cost but it's 300% moar filter
