i know hes not that impressive, but hes my favorite:) any idea what kind he is? i'v had him 7 months, and got him whe he was an inch and a half. he is now 6 inches, and someone gave me a texas cichlid ( i think female) yesterday who he is currently living with. they have been kissing, lip locking, and dancing since i introduced her, and are currently guarding a cave.. no fin or scale damage on either of them.*sniffle* my loving puppy of a flowerhorn tried to bite me when i reached in to feed him this morning!! could this be because of the texas he is now living with? she is incredibly non aggressive, i watched her in her original tank for over an hour before i agreed to take her home. she was living with 15 or 16 2-3 inch cichlids and a large jack dempsey. photos of both of them..no, the cray fish is not dead, she is molting. and no the tank isnt as dirty as it looks, i have no idea why it looks that bad, it gets weekly water changes and gravel vacs.

Ok Im still a flowerhorn noob, but here's what I think. MFK'ers let me know if Im wrong please.

This is a typical double row, ZZ, Red Dragon B grade.

Still looks good!!!

okthanks!
is this possible,, it looks like his nuchal bump is getting larger..over night!!she has started clearing gravel out of the cave too..ambitious little girl..lol any ideas what i can expect if they do breed? according to the internet sites iv been exploring, fertile breeding is possible, i just cant find and pics of what the hybrids would look like..lol and is ther eanything i can add to the water to keep their mouths from getting infected? all that lip locking and they are starting to look bruised.

Well right off the bat whats with the water? :) Also if you do get fry/eggs what do you plan on doing? The female isnt bad, got a classic look to her and the fry will prob be very pearly but wont have much of a head. Always fun to see what you get though!

i have no idea why the water looks so bad in the pics, it really isnt, like i said, once a week water changes and vaccums. i actually did one today. i didnt get the female with intentions to breed them, everything i read online says the larger more aggressive cichlids rarely bond as adults, and your better off starting a pair from juvies. if i did manage to get surviving fry, i'd probably see about finding private owners for some, and using the rest as feeders. the store i bought the flowerhorn from would probably take a bunch, its privately owned and the guy is always looking for different fish. everyone iv asked says she looks like a texas cichlid, but she looks like a flower horn female i saw online too.. the girl i got her from rescued her from being dumped in a pond. either way, shes very pretty and i'm glad i took her in.

I can tell you about a possible solution to your water problem.......Start doing gravel cleaning once every month or every other month. Its probably just a constant bacteria bloom that comes when your tank is being messed with to much. 30-40% water change a week and you'll see the water clearing up quickly. OHHHH and by the way thats definitely a texas and you should let it breed with your flowerhorn! Been there and done that.....mine produced a nice combination of colors from the two. I should warn you that there will be a lot of people who will say that its not ok to cross breed. But its all a matter of opinion.
