Im looking for opinions of Red Sea 2-Stage Prizm Deluxe Skimmer. I have one my dad gave me sitting in my garage.
I'm in the process of reworking my 90 gallon from a FW to SW setup. My plan is to use as much stuff that i have laying around as possible and not adding any extra expense that is not needed right away.
Below is my setup:
90 gal reef ready tank
36" Wavepoint t5's, 4 bulbs, total of 154 watts
water flows from the tank into a sock filter, which drains into a 30 gallon sump which will have 3 chambers, one for a large amount of Chaetomorpha Algae, another for a protein skimmer (preferably the red sea since I have it already), and the final chamber for the return pump.
The return pump I'll be using is generating a tank turnover rate of 3 times an hour ( i was told by a lfs, that turnover rate is fine as long as the flow inside the tank is high).
I just bought a Hydor Koralia 1400 gph pump for the interior of the tank. The tank will be stocked with 75 pounds of live rock, minimal small fish, and soft corals such as mushrooms, polyps, etc. nothing too extreme due to my light budget.
My concerns are
1. is the tank turnover rate too low?
2. is the red sea skimmer sufficient since i'm mainly depending on the live rock and Chaetomorpha Algae for filtration? I read on one website the skimmer is rated for a 40 gallon max tank and on another site as being rated for a 100 gallon. Due to its size I thought the 40 gallon was about right .
Let the posts roll. Thanks ahead of time and ill post pics as this progresses. Right now its just an empty tank in my dining room. Im very excited about this setup as its the first one my wife has shown interest in. Its gonna be a slow build though as we are having our 3rd kid any day now.
