We are setting up a 38 gallon tank in our office. It was broken by our Pacu-- I can't t-talk about th-that yet ... . I repaired it. I'm starting with all new equipment, filter, heater, substrate, you name it. In fact, you can help me put it together! Please offer your opinions on the former, and about the future occupants for this smallish office aquarium (no Pacus, please).

HAHAHA a freakin pacu. pacu's get bigger than the tank you had it in. of course he broke it. hahahahah. how big was it. hahahahah. pacus never fail to amaze me. hahahaha. im sorry i cant stop laughing. not that i havent seen plenty of pacu's in way too small of tanks, but how big was his ass that he could be crammed in a 38 and still have room to swim fast enough too break out. hahahah. if you like anything that gets decent size you need to upgrade NOW!!!!!!!! otherwise stick with some convicts or firemouths .

African malawi mbuna species--- auratus, scolofi, kenyi, zebra, yellow lab, johanni, etc. etc.

Ah, I don't blame you for laughing. The fish was a gift when we bought this house 6 years ago. When we moved in we brought only the one tank (at one time we had nine). A 38 gallon sitting on a 75 gallon stand. Well as you know the fish grew and GREW. Awhile ago we decided to refinance and one thing we were definitely going to do is upgrade. I wanted to go a 100+ gals. Well, one morning our 15" Pacu got tired of waiting... My wife discovered him at 5am, when she thought she heard it raining . It wasn't, so she went to investigate. While he sulked in the bathtub I was dispatched with a credit card to nearest lfs, which is in a corner of a feed store, and the biggest tank they had was a 75. I grabbed it, we set it up, and, and, well, poor old Doofish didn't live long afterwards.
I grew up in San Diego central mayhem! Mission Hills. Trust me, This is the only time I have ever made an aquarium mistake ;) (yeah, right mutter mutter...).

Good, good. We are kinda thinkin' about Nile species, mouth breeders like Steatocranus. We raised those, once upon a time.

small african cichlids would do well in an office....they're more elegant than pacus haha. But pacus taste better.......

pond is the way.........

ei how about having only 1 specie with minimal visual setup? No plants.....just black beads or marbles and 10 frontosas......that would be more elegant. lo maintenance too :woot:

While I'm leaning toward an interesting specimen type of fish that won't grow too large , my lovely, kind, talented, sexy, beautiful (c'mon! she might read this) wife has anounced we're going with African cichlids. THE smaller ONES. I'm saving Frontosas for my (our) dream tank.
There's time, though. We only added the ug filter and gravel yesterday, and after the rest of the 'quipment arrives from ebay, it will be some weeks of cycling before we'll be ready for fi$h.
