I'm setting up a 125 with geos and need some opinions on what color of sand to use.

I don't want black unless it is mixed with another color. And I would prefer a heavier sand. The tank will have lots of driftwood and a few fake plants.

Please post what you would use if it was your tank and a pic if you got it!

c'mon MFKers!!! Any suggestions???:(

Well I think sand basically only comes in three colors black, white or natural. You could do a mix of natural with some black in it. I don't know I really don't care for sand myself.

My geos are on pool filter sand. It's heavy, easy to clean, and looks great. (plus it's cheap)

I was thinking of the natural look with the PFS. But I think white would really brighten things up a bit.

Is the white sand sold at places like petsmart lighter than PFS. (weight not color)

my geos love their pool filter sand

3m has colored quartz. You can get it in a course grade so it will be larger pieces but still sandy to the touch. S grade is fine and T grade is course. You can get it in a ton of colors. Or you can do regular sand in many varieties of tans, black tahitian sand, or white aragonite.

Is this stuff aquarium safe? Do any chemicals leach out? ;)

For aquarium use it is safe. It is pretty much just colored sand, that is as hard and insoluble as regular sand. It has been used by alot of people at cichlid-forum for a while.

For sandblasting or commercial use where you can pulverize it, it has the same affects as any silica based sand on the planet.
