So im like obsessed with mechanical filtration, it's the only thing i seem unable to get a handle on. i want my water to be clear damnit!

right now i know my problem is turn over which is way to low for my tank other than that my water prams are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and maybe around 40ppm of nitrates which i plan to combat with more frequent water changes or maybe a drip system.

can anyone vouch for seaclear filters? i have a few questions...will they explode when they get clogged? how often do you have to clean em and how? backflushing? i think i have more but lets start from there..

thanks

SeaClear filters???? Don't they make sumps?

Did you mean NuClear cartridge filters or maybe RedSea cartridge filters? I had a RedSea cartridge filter and always hated it. The stupid thing always leaked and it was a major hassle to maintain. I would blast the filter cartridge in a big industrial ultrasonic cleaner to get all the gunk out and restore flow. Just soaking the cartridge in a bleach solution and blasting it with water was only partially effective at restoring flow.

If you want really clear water nothing comes close to a DE filter. My Diatom D1 was great for periodic water polishings but for a full time water polishing solution nothing I have found beats a DE swimming pool filter.
