I am setting up a 240 gallon FOWLER (probably with some softies)and I haven't bought a skimmer yet. I have been leaning towards the ASM G4XX and the AquaC EV-240. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either of these. Any thoughts are appreciated, Thanks in advance.

the ASM G4XX is quite pricey for a simple ventrili based skimer, and the ventrili looks small on it. IMO I dont think it would be the best performer. Plus a skimmer at that price should come with a valave drainer off of the collection cup into another chamber that you can change out.

I like the design of the AquaC EV-240 alot better and it has most of the features you'd want, but the flow is rather low and you might need 2 for a tank your size. IDK, maybe someone else will chime in.

Don't know about those specific models, but I had an AquaC skimmer (HOT) and it was nails, so I know they make good products.

I would prefer to have only one skimmer. Is there a different one that would would reccomend instead?

I had HOT remora. I've also had other skimmers. In comparison the AquaC was extremely inefficient, not to mention it did not skim consistently.
I know other people with the same problems.

I think for people that haven't run more efficient skimmers (dunno if you have or not) they seem to be ok. To me I wasn't impressed, and I haven't been impressed with the skimate that people who claim it's working well are getting either *shrug*.

And customer service was no help at all. They told us we should do a few things, and when we did and nothing changed they never responded back.

I'm not sure about AquaCs other skimmers, but after that I'm turned off to them. And from reviews I've read, I'd rather just go with something like a Deltec than take a chance on them again. For that matter, my fairly cheap Coralife Super skimmer (which I ran hang on back) did MUCH better than my AquaC remora *shrug*.

I haven't run any ASM but I've heard mixed reviews. Though better ones than for AquaCs stuff.

Is there any reason you decided to consider those two brands? Was it price, or just appeared to be decent, or what?

There are more reliable and higher performance choices. Though possibly more expensive.

There are a lot of threads on reefcentral on skimmers, so that is probably your best place to look. Keep in mind that when researching skimmers a lot of people will say "well I ran this and it worked just fine", BUT many of those people haven't run anything else in comparison. For the people that have run efficient skimmers that pull out a ton of stuff, AquaCs and ASMs just don't tend to be the best choice in comparison.
You want to look for posts from people that have run several skimmers, including high and low end brands.

I haven't run either of the models you've mentioned, so I don't necessarily want to steer you away from them just based on my opinion. That's why I recommend posting on reef central or going through the previous posts. There are some people on there that have done sw for years and have run a ton of different skimmers, of different types, and their opinions are often reliable.

I have been keeping fish for a long time but am new to SW and am inexperienced with skimmers. The AquaC looked to be a good skimmer with decent ease of use from reviews that I have read. maybe I am looking in the wrong place:nilly:

From what I read on reefcentral the model AquaC you posted is decent, but it's by far not the best.

A lot of people are saying super reef octopus, and deltecs. Kind of pricey, but great skimmers.

I have only used the Reef Octopus brand (HOB) but I plan on going with a big boy Reef Octo in my RR FOWLR tank. My buddy who has kept SW tanks for years recommended them to me and I have been nothing but happy with the product, easy to use and pulls a lot of gunk out of the water.

From everything I have read it really depends on your fish load.

Reef octopuss is good...but not as good as AquaC. Im really surprised to be reading these things about this company.

AquaC is pretty much plug and play, they have one of the fastest break-in times, and do great. (Its the only filtration on my 75g reef!)

Customer service has been awesome to me, sending me replacement parts for free with no charge of shipping...I have no reasons to complain about them at ALL.

Very surprised to read that someone else has had poor experiences with AquaC. Everyone that I have recommended them to has been extremely happy.
