240 gallon tank, 8'x2'x2'. Heavily stocked with driftwood and rock. 2 male t-bar cichlids, 2 male convict cichlids, 2 male blue acaras, 1 male and 1 female chiclasoma dimerus, and 15 or so green tiger barbs. I figured chiclasoma dimerus as being not as aggressive so they could be the breeding pair, all other cichlids are male so that should lessen agression, and the barbs to help cycle the tank and serve as target fish. To me, looks good on paper, what are your opinions.

I have never kept cichlids before. Will this combination of fish get along or will they tear each other apart?

No they will not tear each other apart, of course they may fight but I don't think any fish will get killed with that setup.

You have a very big tank and the cichlids you mentioned don't get huge and usually don't get on rampage.

I believe you don't really need target fish with that stocklist, although the tiger barbs may look very nice together with those cichlids.

But, I do think the tank would be much nicer if you get breeding pairs.
Like I said the tank is huge, but the convicts may get a little too aggressive when breeding.

With a tank that big you could definitely do pairs of the species you listed. I think if you go with the stock list you have your tank will look empty. Pairs will give you a lot more interesting behavior to watch.

u could do a t-bar cichlid, severum, blue acaras, 4 Geo and some barbs.
