Hey everyone! Fairly new here but have been reading quite a bit. I'm about to buy a larger tank (150gallons or more) very soon and was wondering what color sand/rocks and background will bring out the most color of my fish.
The fish are as follows
Alligator far
Peacock bass ( waiting till it's bigger to get a proper ID)
Shovelnose cat
And a poly Palma.

Would prefer sand over rocks. But other than that just want to really be able to see the fish and not have them look super dark and blend in.

All help and comments are appreciated!

Man u got an alligator far??! Lol jk

Id say contrast light colored tan sand w/ dark rocks and driftwood that way it blends better and gives it depth, imo never use same colored rocks and substrate.

As far a a BG id say a 3 dimesional rock would be sweet, you can order online but their pretty pricey, im no fan of buying bg at lfs cuz everybody and their mom has those! I bought 2 dark blue posterboards and simply taped it to the back of my tank and its beautiful and simple, bought fx5 so i had to save $$ where i could.

Function>looks

Also if its a REAL ALLIGATOR GAR a 150+ is nothing, try 500+!

Most likely its a flordia gar so a 150+ imo will work but dont overstock to much, id go with 2 fx5 as well!

Thanks guys! Yeah I have a couple dark pieces of drift wood already so light sand would be nice! Don't want to do a 3d background bc I don't want the gar getting scared and hitting it
