Hey everyone I am new to rays but not new to fish keeping. I have only had my ray a few days but am already hooked and planning towards the future

I was looking at tanks and have been considering this perfecto

72 x 36 x 27 300 gallons

Would this be large enough to house a pair of motoros for life?

I was previously thinking about a 180 gallon upgrade but after seeing vamptrevs female realized that would not be an option long term :WHOA:

I am also torn between doing 2 fx5s or a sump if anyone has any opinions

yea you should be able to get away with 3ft wide for life, but keep in mind motoros have the abaility to grow about 3ft wide.

So a 3.5 - 4ft tank would be BEST- if possible that is.

Sumps are cheap if you do them your self, so you should go for a SUMP with quality media, - look in the DIY section heaps of designs floating around.
and then also get a FX5 for that added flow inside your tank :)

But if you have to choose, i would vote sump, providing you design in correctly to have craploads of bio filtration and the ability to turn over huge amounts of water
Good luck.

yes i agree with the other members! get a wider tank if you want to house them for life! Im runninng a 120 gal sump and a FX5 with 2 AC 110 on my tank and Water is crystal!!!!!!!!!!! Sumps do the job but get a FX5 to back it up and get all the stuff floating around inside the tank

I think I will go with the 300 gallon with a sump and an fx5 sounds like my best option for the near future

Just dont tell my wife I will need to upgrade again later :)

I did not like my FX5, it is in my shed now. They really do hum and make a lot of noise. They have a lot of sponge area but the rest of the bio area is not larger than a decent eheim.

I have plumbed my large eheim in instead and when the tank was built I added a drilled bulkhead and eye ball for the supply and return of the cannister. I have a 4X2X2 sump too.

I am a big fan of the fx5 that isn't an issue. I have ran one on my 150 for about 3 years now with a varying amount of bio load and never had any issues

Mine is just filled with pot scrubbers that might have something to do with it

In a closed cabinet I can't even hear mine unless i listen very closely for it
