I am ready to order my new tank but I'm stuck. I have enough saved to get either one. I can get a 210gl AGA from my local pet store for $750 with lids. It is 72" x 24" x 29". Not quite sure of the warranty but the manager said she thought it was 3 -5 yrs. The other option is a 240gl from glass cages. It is 96" x 24" x 24". Total on it is $685 plus $60 for lids and another $90 for delivery to a place that is almost 1 1/2hrs away. They only have a 90 day warranty though. I will be putting a Blackbelt, 2 RD, a FH and a pleco in it. I think the extra 2' in the length would be a good thing with the glass cages tank but I don't think I can justify the xtra money and time for the 90 day warranty.

What would you do if this is the last tank you would ever buy?

I think you will need the 8 ft. length eventually, but maybe more if they establish territories and one decides to take over the whole tank. I've heard glasscages aren't so good, though. Can you find a 210 thats 86x24x24?

Though I like the sound of the 8' tank better, I'm afraid of GlassCages' tanks and wouldn't buy from them. AGA is probably the better choice and I've heard thier customer service is light years ahead of GC's. You should be able to find a 240-long somewhere else or have your lfs order it for you...it's a pretty standard size tank.

I have 2 LFS in my area. 1 is the quoted price and it is the largest tank they can get. The other wanted $1000 for the tank alone so I was afraid to ask for anything larger from them.

It doesn't sound good when a company is only prepaired to give a 90 day warranty on a new product made by them, I would steer clear of them. Have you tried locating a tank on the net? You may be able to get one shipped closer to you with a better warrenty. As for size if you can fit an 8 foot tank in then thats the size to go for, Bigger is always better.

A little off topic, but I'd highly recommend buying a completely setup used tank. You can get much more for your money. (check the classified here and craigslist, even ebay)

I agree with fishguy!!!!! You can find awesome deals out there. Just be patient. I live near Glass Cages. I went to the BEST LFS in middle TN and he only buys reptile cages/tanks from them to sell to his customers. I was asking him what he thought about their fish tanks and he said "NOOOOO!! I will never buy aquariums from them to sell to my customers, it makes me look bad too when they bust or leak"

Keep an eye out for used tanks! A rag and a little elbow grease go a long way and save you money in the meantime. Hell, get a used 300!!!;):)
