I'm having a 300 gallon tank built fairly soon and wanted a few opinions on the stock I have in mind. Whether it's overstocked or there is still room for more. I have about half these guys already and am waiting for the construction of my 300g before I get the other half.

Tank- 8' x 2.5' x 2'

1x Red Oscar
1x Mono Pbass (if there is room I'd like to do two more and make it a small group)
7x SD (6 are mylossoma duriventre, 7th is regular)
2x Tinfoil Barb
1x FM
1x Ornate Bichir
1x Silver Aro
1x Clown Knife
1x Datnoid

BUMP Wow, no one? I'm pretty decent at stock usually just never stocked a tank this big which is a bit different from stocking like 125g tanks.

I think they will be fine for now. The only ones that really have potential to outgrow the tank is the aro and p bass. But both will take a long time to do so so I think it will work. Just have plenty of caves and cover so that if somebody gets picked on they can hide.

Well I've seen people keep full grown Silvers in a 220g and read in a few places that's minimum so I figured 300g would definitely be suitable. Wasn't sure about the Pbass. Didn't plan on doing many decorations in this tank. I guess I can figure out some sort of monster cave...

I think your stock looks good. But I would not add anymore fish if they are full grown.

So you're thinking 2 more Pbass would be too much? What about a species of Gar?

In that tank I'd choose either the barbs or the dollars... The barbs should be in a school of 5. Also with the PBass when they get to full size there's a possibility that they would eat the firemouth (only gets to 6-7" max). The only other thing I see being a problem is that with the oscar, Pbass (especially them) and arrowana being aggressive feeders, the clown knife might not get to eat.

That's just my .02

Well, you could definitely keep a Florida/spotted gar in a 300 for it's whole life, but it might be kinda cramped in there once the fish are full grown if you are 100% on having the rest of that list. I just got a spotted a month ago, awesome fish.

The barbs literally school with the SD. It's very odd, but they all school together. Have since I got them. My gf got the barbs for a 10g. The lfs owner said they'd be fine in there. Obviously not, so I ended up with them. Yeah, I realize this with the FM... I just only want to have 1 other setup besides this tank which would be for my aggressive JD and a Pink Convict. The JD gets along fine with the FM and Con but not cichlids larger than him and I was thinkin' for my 2nd tank (which I want to be 55g it's 95g now though) the FM JD and Con would be pushing it... But you're right. The FM isn't going to work. I've been thinking this as well. The Oscar eats his large pellets and doesn't bother any of the other fish in the tank while they're eating. They eat separate food so I usually just lure my O over to the side by showing hm a pellet and he'll run right over, and then feed him, while the others eat on the other side. Pbass doesn't aggressively eat right now, but he's only been in the tank two days.

The current list is defnitely the fish I want most. This 300g is going to be my "one tank." I'm going to have a 55g for an aggressive JD I have but the 300g is going to be my only one and I'm selling the rest of the tanks so the list I've compiled is the fish I definitely want the most. The gar, I'm quite interested in them, but I certainly don't have my heart set on one like these other fish.
