So this is been a week from hell. My fx5 on my 125 has been acting up like crazy and seems to be sucking air into it and making a lot of noise. As a result I have been up late or getting up really early to work on the filter or do WC to make sure water stays great. This really won't be an issue if I didn't have to work as well. So I have had a enough and think I want to replace the filter. I have to AC 110s on the tank and just put on a third (had one sitting around for a rainy day). The tank is heavily stocked with mostly mixed silver dollar school and some other fish. I want to add a filstar xp4. I know everyone isn't crazy about their circulation abilities, but I have five other filstars running for years with no issues. Do you think with the AC and filstar it would be enough? I am going away in 1.5 weeks and will have to make the purchase soon.

3 AC 110's and an XP4? Plenty of filtration...

If the can is sucking air ,id trouble shoot it real hard, something is not right, loose hoses, loose lids, valves not open, split intake line, how old is it?

trust me I have been trying. It is about a year old. I bought it used a couple of months ago. I will never buy a used filter again. It has been nothing but a head ache. The only thing that I can think of that I haven't tried was taking off the motor and putting it back on. I took it off months ago to clean it. The air problem only started this week. If air was coming in through where the motor is wouldn't it also be leaking water?

Same happened to me one and i tried EVERYTHING FOR DAYS STRAIGHT!!

then i took off the hoses and the inside was 100% covered with whitish slimmy stuff, i took a shotgun cleaner 36" pipe w/ a cotton cleaning head and jammed it up and down in the tube and got all the nasty crap out of the intake and outake hose, it was creating bubbles going down the tube from the turbalance w/ the water and gunk.

Put it all back together and bam she ran like new
