I came home from work today to an alarming sight. My Puffer Buzzbee has AGAIN chewed all the silicon out of the corner of his tank causing it to leak... so I had to take him out and put him in my 17 gallon brackish hospital tank. There's about 10-15 gallons of brackish water on my carpet now... He was black on the bottom from the stress of the tank draining I guess and the filter shut off as did the heater beacuse it became exposed. He absolutely hated the 17 gallon so I moved him to my 50 gallon Brackish tank. It has a Violet Goby, A small scale Archer fish, and 2 3-4 inch Jewel Cichlids. I figured he would have tried to eat the fish but he went after the Cichlid and the Cichlid rammed him and now they seem to leave each other alone. I'm watching like a hawk for aggression and I have a net Ready...

1. Is there any chance of this working? The tank has a lot of decorations in it for hiding spots.
2. How do I keep him from chewing Silicon off?
3. His teeth are still growing even though I give him snails 3 times a week? Any other larger hard foods I can give him?
4. Are there any seamless 30 gallon tanks if this 50 gallon doesn't work out?

yes

idk
3. His teeth are still growing even though I give him snails 3 times a week? Any other larger hard foods I can give him?
they always grow. try giving him crabs, or crays if he's big enough
4. Are there any seamless 30 gallon tanks if this 50 gallon doesn't work out?
ever heard of acrylic?
.

The hospital tank I have is acrilic. Has score marks in it from his constant chewing. He seems okay in the 50 gallon right now. He's exploring everything. He's still a little black around his stomach area though.... I hope that goes away... I don't want my baby to be stressed.

Try a local bait shop for crays & earthworms.

I've neve hears of a GSP chewing so aggressively. Acrylic would be the way to go. I have a feeling the peace in the tank he's in now isn't going to last long. The goby will be the 1st to go. What kind of cichlid are you keeping in BW?

Jewel Cichlids. It's only 1.005 though. I'm worried that he'll attack too... I"m going to have to get more silicon to seal his tank again... I'll start looking for an acrylic... though... that's going to be expensive. Perhaps its because he's bored? Would maybe moving him into a higher traffic area like the living room help maybe? Since they're so intelligent and he loves attention. I"m hoping though that he'll be okay in this tank. I"m still in the room with them and he's cruising up and down the large plants in there biting the red tips of a few of them. I think he thinks they're bloodworms. The Goby is strictly nocturnal and my puff isn't though... I think that should help. The Goby has a burrow in the corner dug out so he can get UNDER the base of one of the plants that I I put in there. I hope the Peace lasts the 48 hours it takes for this silicone to set. He hated the smaller tank though. Looked quite distressed and was biting the tank walls. I don't know why this one does that... I've never heard of it. I"m going to put peices of slate mushed into the silicone so hopefully he can't get at the silicone again. I'll let you guys know if it works. I'm hoping he'll stay calm enough in the 50 for that to work. If not I"m not sure what I'll do...

My 1st thought was maybe there is something wrong with his stomach he's trying to soothe. Like when my dog has an upset stomach, he licks everything--carpeting, kitchen floor, dirt, concrete--hoping something will help. What does this fellow look like? Have you seen his poop?

Also, Jewel cichlids don't belong in BW.

Ah they don't... okay I'll take them out. Thinking of getting rid of them anyway. The one is bullying the other. I'll convert them back slowly and give them away. Yes I've seen it. It looks normal to me. His stomach isn't discolored or oddly shaped. He eats veraciously and as soon as the snails or bloodworms and other foods hit the water. At first I thought it was water chemistry but I checked the levels every day for a week and they stayed at 0ppm ammonia 0ppm Nitrite and around 3-4 ppm Nitrate. He started doing this when I went back to school and wasn't here during the day.

Could he have a parasite? If so... how do I get rid of it for him? How would I diagnose this. Never had a fish with a parasite. Would the symptoms just now be showing. He's not eating the silicone btw just chewing it and the plants and the filter intake... and me if I put my hand in there.
