havent used others.. but i have an XP3 on my overflow that works alright... i got mine used too and i think the motor is a little weak, but it gets the job done... im about to add a powerhead to my tank to help the water current improve, and hopefully thatll lead to better filtration
mm.. I'm with pharao.. I think rena generally is a bit of.. they market their xp4 as a competitor for the big eheims and the fx5 which is more or less a lie..
BUT. for it's price I say the xp3 is one of if not the best filter per dollar. go for it!
Ive had one for probably 8 years been pretty good for me,but the pipes get brittle after a few years, but thats not a major problem, and mine has never broken down, had it running my 180 discus set up and for the last 2 years its been on my aro tank as a second filter,

I have two and love them. I prefer the powerjet nozzle though that comes with the filter. its cool that you have two output options (either spraybar or powerjet) with the rena. no one else does this.
I just bought one for $60, xp3. I did not know about the parts and it only came with the two tubes and the blue thing that sucks water. No strainer to suck water and there is no spray bar for the output, all the black looking stuff.
I usually use Aquaclear HOB filters and undergravel filters with powerheads attached. This is my first cannister filter so I did not know what I was buying. But the thing is working now, just have two tubes sucking and releasing water in the aquarium.
I asked about the Fluval 403 cannister filter that I was going to buy used for about $50-$60. And a lot of people told me here that I would have to replace things always so I did not go for it.
