sounds like something my 5th graders would have made up

When trying to find specific fish it is better to search under the scientific name.

Likely what your looking for is a yasuhikotakia modesta botia. Have to be careful with these guys as this loach is often offered as blue or purple and are dyed.

Liveaquaria.com has these in stock, they call them "Redtail botia loach".

:screwy:From what I can find, Glen S. Axelrod popularized the name, and it describes them pretty well:screwy:

No, there not dyed, its their natural colar. And the scientific name is yasuhikotakia lecontei.

yasuhikotakia lecontei is commonly known as the silver loach. Pics I seen does really look purple. Do you have any pics or links?
