I am sure we all have a favorite. For me it is this girl, I have had her for a long time and always taken extra care with her, she grew slow to start with but finally over the last while has gained some good size and it's now about 16 inches across her disk. She will be turning 3 at the end of the month. I have always tucked her away from the males and been patiently waiting for the right time to breed her. Well over the last while I have felt she is big enough and ready so I kept her with my Leo while he was breeding and chasing other females. He showed no interest in her but I left her in the tank with just the Leo and all the females.
Well after the Leo did his work on the other female mantilla and is still chasing my jag I figured I needed to move the big girl and give all the males a shot with the other females who have not been bred before.
Moving the big ray was a task but I got it done and all the males into one tank. To my luck I was staying up late last night and I was able to watch one of my mantilla males breed with my orange female for her first time. Then this afternoon I came down to the tank and again I saw she had a rather large sperm plug. So now the wait and the anticipation. I am excited but nervous at the same time because she is so awesome to me and I hope her pups live up to her good looks. It's going to be a long 4 months but I'll have one other batch of pups in the middle and who knows what else. After this batch with the mantilla I might try for a batch with the Leo depending what I get. Have to love options.
