what do you guys think about these? How big do they get and do they retain the orange coloring? Anyone keep them?

PP-love to hear from you-where you been at?

from what i can tell its just a variant or regani. most likely it'll hold its color. cool litte fish. my reg. female regani is gorgeous. if they are like reganis 3"-5". seems to be just like keeping regular reganis.

If they are the same Orange Santarem I got last year they are nothing more than very small Xingu I. Withinth 6 months they were 8" eating killing machines. They finally got murdered by my lents. :(

My guess is that's all these are too.

I concur with Scat.

Santarem would refer to the collection location: it's a city in Brazil, not actually part of the name of the fish, but helpful in identification.

ok so arent xingu I's only located in the rio xingu? santarem is located farther east in between the rio amazonas and the rio tapajos. if you got xingu I's i highly recomend you get your money back. by the looks of it you got f'ed over. the only orange santarems i see are reganis. what breeder did you get these fish from?

Google really isn't a reliable way to identify fish. Orange pike is the common name for the sp. "Xingu I" pike. The only issue when I got mine is that they were thought to be a dwarf, but appear now to be something larger...probably normal Xingu I. I don't think anyone bought these thinking they were a regani variant. They are wild-caught...no breeders involved.

how are they wild caught xingu I if you can only get them from the rio xingu but these fish are collected farther west (i apologize for saying east earlier in the thread.) in the rio tapajos. you can't get xingus from the tapajos. which is where santarem is located. a fish labled santarem has to be something else. i also understand what you are saying about google. but there are sites with reganis labled as santarem.
