got 2 pairs of Orangeheads layin eggs with possibly a third pair developing.
first 2 pairs laid eggs but the eggs were eaten by the pleco. Last week this pair laid these eggs and the father mouthed them for several days. now both parents are mouthing...either eggs or wigglers. i cant tell their mouths are sealed shut.

How long do eggs take to hatch and when do they release them?
Thanks and enjoy the pic

VERY NICE ED!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Congrats Ed! My Abalios brood for roughly 4-6 days before they start releasing fry. Not sure on how long the OH do yet, sorry. I'm sure Peter will chime in here any time and let you know.

Congrats Ed

My pair were in a 55g breeder by themselves when they spawed, so they were probably more willing to release the fry. I have pictures of them spawning on 6/5/09, parents holding on 6/9/09, a pile of wigglers on 6/10/09 and a cloud of fry swimming fry 6/13/09. I didn't keep any record of subsequent spawns, byt you have a rough idea :) Water was probably at ~80F.

update: daddy must of released cause his mouth is now open and operational. mama in the corner with daddy defending, noticed a few babies popping in and out her mouth. pretty cool

Dont think the fry will last long in this tank, too many hungry tankmates. Contemplating if i should setup another tank for breeding but space, money and wife are issues

Thanks Peter, JK & Rob

Ditch the wife!

OH's > wife, any day mate :D

Congrats man, the parents look great, and should make some beautiful offspring
