My geophaghus tapajos are laying eggs. This is their first time and don't know whether it will be a success or not. How many days before they hatch? Any advice? They are in a 220g tank with 8 peacock bass.

The best thing about these geos is watching their parental care :-) !
It requires a few practice runs before they succeed at the whole process & those attempts strengthen the pair bond. in about 3 days they get to the mouth brooding aspect.
I wouldn't keep them with PB if rearing fry was my goal...unless there is an area you can make for the parents where the PB can NOT get to at all. the parents eventually let the fry forage about under their protection too, so they need a couple feet of rearing habitat in a large tank.

I didn't think they'll pair up this soon. I put them in with pBass because I wanted some fish to keep the sand clean. I guess if the eggs hatch I'll try to catch the parents and fry and put them in a separate tank. I have a 4' X 1.5' X 1.5' 65g spare tank, which can be set up for this breeding pair. Even if the first attempt fails I guess there will be success later. The pBass are still about 5" - 6" in size and the geos chase them away when the come close to the breeding area. This is very exciting. First time I'm seeing any of my fish breeding.

I'm considering setting up a separate tank for Geophagus. Will I be successful in breeding if I keep about 5 tapajos in total in a 4'X1.5'X1.5' (65g) tank, which will include the currently mated pair.
Or else do I have to keep the mated pair in a separate tank to be success? Please advice guys.
