I have a male & female orange pike, pretty sure because I bought them together & 1 is much bigger & less colored & the other more trim & bright destinct coloring. My questions is the larger picks & at times mouth locks the smaller, is this common for the pikes?

i agree it mostly normal but if the tanks too small or theres no furniture in the tank to provide them with their own territory they will fight like this to prove whos the dominate one

Yeah, I guess I should have been more specific. Sometimes it's done out of hate and sometimes it's "love"! LOL

Watch it though, pikes have teeth, and even a love nip can damage be enough to leave marks and even damage each other. Also, if you DO have a pair, watch them closely. If the female isn't in the mood or isn't mature yet, the male will get frustrated and beat the crap outa her. Make sure there is a place where only she can get to. This is a little tricky with pikes cuz they are generally shaped the same. Key is PVC of different sizes. Could save her life. My xingu pair would go through marital squabbles where i feared for her life one day and then couldn't seperate them the next.
