Anyone have experience with this filter? I ordered it for my newest tank a 55 gallon. It also has an under gravel filter and a HOB Top fin 60 filter. What media would you use for the HOB and Canister ??? :)
Also will this be enough filtration you think ? The eheim is rated up to 96 gallons the top fin is rated for 60 gallons. Thanks in advance :grinno:

I believe the 2215 comes with the media already installed. Use as is this is a very good media setup.

I would get some AC70 sponges for your HOB(you may have to custom fit). Use the HOB strictly for mechanical and clean it often. The sponges are easily rinsed and reusable.

Sounds good Ill do that thanks. ! I want the HOB to be almost solely mechanical filtration or maybe also some carbon but why bother if the canister is full of REAL activated carbon. Ill take that advice thanks buddy :D

yeah it's fine, just some people choose to go bio only in their canisters.
And use the hob as mech only.
In that case you would go like 3 liters of chosen media and thats it.
and then use foam blocks or what not in your hob that you rinse out offen to collect excess food and poop.

never mind, beat me to it.

Your 2215 will not come with carbon. As long as you do regular water changes, which are needed to remove nitrates, the carbon is basically useless. Carbon really is only good for removing medications or some specific impurities.

So im guessing its these filter pads that provide the mechanical filtration ? to keep the bio media clean. If thats the case thats cool ill keep two cartridges with activated carbon if needed for the reasons you listed. Otherwise ill use the HOB with sponges THANKS ALOT GUYS

i bought one expecting great things but im less than impressed. the flow is terrible, its of no use if you want even a reasonable flow rate from it, im considering taking it off and putting my cheap jebo one back on. i wish i could have sent it back. seeing as the classics are meant to be the daddies in external filtartion i will not be buying an eheim again.
the one good thing about it is it was a flawless setup and was so easy to get running.

How much flow did you get ? And what size tank ?
Is it possible yours was broken ?
