Decided to take the plunge today. Called up the turtle man and placed my order. He said he has about 350 of these guys in stock right now... crazy. He has about 200 breeder males and 500 breeder females. Anyways, I ordered two hatchlings from him, one for myself, and one for a buddy. Can't wait till he gets here on Friday afternoon. I'll be sure to post pics.

You can order these things? Can you order common snappers? I used to have one in highschool. Made a pond out back then one of my siblings took him out when I was at work and he got run over grr. I had two a few years ago, in a kiddie pool escape proofed and again siblings took them out and they ran away. I assume they went to the channel down the street. Wouldnt mind having one from a baby again, they are fun to watch eat. Mine was always active

All the good stuff's illegal in Cali!

Except for pot lol

I am keeping him in a 10 gallon for a week or two, when he will then be transferred into either a 30 breeder, or a 40 long. I plan on having a sand bottom, some floating plants, natural driftwood, and some big rocks. Should look neat when its all done. It is going to be lit by an aqua glo light during the day, and a marine glo light at night so I can watch him hunt. I am really excited.

Yes you can order them. http://www.turtleman.com/ I called their # and spoke directly with the guy you see on the webpage. Extremely knowledgable, extremely talkative lol. The common snappers are cheap. I inquired about the leucistic snappers and he said he doesnt get many, and they sell for about $550. He said he had 31 last year, and 21 were sold in advance overseas. The leucistic Alligator Snappers will go for about $375 this year. Maybe one day.
