ordering fish

You mean like a private individual on aquabid or the for sale forum?Or a larger commecial breeder?Ive bought and sold fish online.I havent had any problems that couldnt be worked out.Mostly youre dealing with hobbists who care about thier fish and are just looking to move some offspring. The worst part of the whole deal is the shipping.Priority mail is cheap but risky sometimes youre lucky but it could take 4 days, not good for the fish.Even with the best packing there can be losses.Overnight shipping is expensive, sometimes more than the fish cost, but youre more likely to get live fish.

yes, i have ordered 3 separate shipments of african cichlids from a breeder in kentucky (im in Ohio) and i had them overnight shipped. It is more expensive that way, but i figure if im paying for quality fish i want them to arrive alive! lol-- in all 3 shipments the fish arrived alive, active and very hungry--i havent had any deaths due to shipping problems...

my fish arrived double bagged, then in a styrofoam box which was inside a cardboard box.

Alot of the shippers will use two bags, oxygen, heater packs, and bag buddies to keep the fish calmer. Some sellers will even fast the fish for 2-3 days so they don't make as much waste. If you are against sedating fish, then ask the seller first.

I ordered Some WC Moba Frontosa and we had bad weather. The fish were delayed an entire day, they spent 2 full days in a bag and have been doing fine in my tank for the last 6 months. I thought I was gonna open the box and have 3 dead 6-7" Mobas.

I have ordered corals, inverts, and fish from different sellers; I have yet to receive a delivery with a dead fish in it.

One last thing, check the return policy. Many places want a picture of the dead fish in the unopened original shipping package. They may also only offer in store credit.
