I had two Orinos 3-4.5". One is an inch bigger. I have seen them fighting the entire week. I was hoping the fighting would stop once they settle the hierarchy. Yesterday I found him all beaten up with missing fins and wound marks. Today my turtle was eating him. Now I don't know if he died from the turtle eating him or from being so weak from the injuries. Are Orinos known to fight to the death?

Wow... Never heard of Orino's fighting to the death... I have 8 of them and their all different sizes my smallest being 3" and biggest in that tank is 7", they all once in awhile bully each other around like teenage boy's but never go for blood.. I'd say the turtle had to be the cause I'd think is my best guess... Man Sorry for your loss bro.

YOu should know better than to have just 2 cichla together at that age....Best in groups of 3 or more. But ive never heard of em to fight to the death. The turtle could be suspect. Id suggest puttn him in w/ your bigger fish.

Thanks guys. I might move the turtle to a different tank until all the fish grow bigger. I think the bass must have been so weak from all the fighting. The turtle must have finish him off at night. :-( I am kind of sad the turtle ate the bass than the gold gourami.

X2 always keep my cichla in groups of 3 or bigger unless im just QTing them.

last week I had my 4 inch orino kill 4 of my 3 inch ocell in like 2 hours everything was ok I watched them for two hours and they were ok. I left came home and the ocells were all dead fins shredded. my wife was all concerned about me putting the orino in the ocells tank put I swore they would be fine its a 100 gallon with lots of places to hide. She's still pissed off at me about it. My last group pushed each other around sometimes I didn't think he'd straight smash them all.

On another note guys...orino's are wicked aggressive. Most cichla are compared to your average "joe's" fish. No pun intended Joe :) But IMO orino's are the most aggro out of all the sub species of cichla ive had. I currently have azuls, orino's, mono, kelberi and a xingu. Ive also had occels and tems. But out of all the cichla ive raised the orino's are the most aggro. But I hear a pack of xingus can be pretty wicked as well...same w/ a pack of xingu's. Cichla are just aggro in general....for the most part.
