First time keeping cichla in an aquarium, other than some wild ones I feed in my lake behind the house. These were sold to me as Orinoco from colombia, let’s see what they turn into. Feel free to offer advice as i am always open to suggestions maximize their health! Currently all 7 of these little guys are in a 29 gallon for the time being while i setup a 5’x24”x18” acrylic that i’m sure they will grow out in no time.

Got them off live and eating catfish that I got at the local grocery store. They don’t like mysis shrimp or bloodworms so for now it’s catfish filets. Anything else you guys suggest feeding?

As of right now mine won’t eat anything outside of brine shrimp. But they seem to be growing and starting to colour up a bit.

How do you prepare the catfish? Just chop it into small pieces? Can you post a pic?

i mean i bought the filets and chopped them up to like quarter sized pieces, when it’s time to feed i thaw it out and like rip little pieces with my fingers and toss it in. they like for me to roll it up to like little tiny sticks with my fingers haha. i paid like 8 dollars for 3 pounds of it! got a huge freezer bag full

mine would eat the mysis shrimp and the bloodworms then spit them out instantly

Very nice you will be happy with your Orino’s. It’s great you got them to eat catfish, you should try to dust the catfish with pellets that are ground up ao they get the taste of pellets slowly increasing the amount of pellet powder they will be on pellets in no time keep us updated
