got so much footage I will have to make several to show complete process...
So heres the story....woke up to 2 dead adult oscars....2 dead adult rotkiel severums...thought Oh $hit!!! water problem...then saw two orinos in the corner....the female that bred with the azul down in a depressed area below a 50lb stump and all the gravel moved away uncovering a slate weight for the stump...the big 16"+ orino male all blown out ...fins up..neck flaired and pacing like a reef shark with its fins straight as a board.....so they paired...looked,no eggs yet....so I figureded this time around I would set up the camera before I left for work and film so action to post up after moving out all the other dithers I could safely house in other tanks I left for work........upon coming home some crazy activity thats pretty interesting.....the male azul that is approx 16-18" is trying to get into the nest zone with the female he spawned with a month or so ago....heres where the good vid comes in....not only is this strange but he is intent and the male orino is tolerating him to a point...you'll see in the vid that the male orinocensis will place himself longways in front of the female and nest site to block the azul but not really beat him instead give him a show and display.....this is bizzare as I saw thw last oscar get nailed this morning doing the same as the azul...he came near the nest and the orino pounded im into the substrate decently hard...and as the oscar straightened himself out the orino hit him fast and hard broadside leaving him convulsing to the top on his side(I did remove him and put him in a hospital tank, but was dead in a matter of 5 minutes)...anyway he is letting the azul in the zone...and the azul is actually pulling some halfhearted head rams on the male orino without any real retaliation...very interesting...are they swingers ?
You will notice the female during the whole vid on the nest with the male close by...the other orino you will see one time, as he moved from the front corner and the male was on him in a second....see, he is getting beat to hell..same species aggression maybe? also you will see the big lumberous niger cat and the massive granulosus in there...he picked on them a bit...but when they didnt flinch after all his efforts he pretty much has ignored them...also the cats are smart enough to keep their distance and keep on moving...LOL
Anyway I am being long winded...I will put this vid up for now and tomarrow load one that shows a bit more and the actual nest....for those of you who have cichla there is alot going on in this vid to take note on thats very interesting...I will leave it up to you guys to bring up...keep note of postures, swim levels(granted you know cichla dont normally lay on the substrate and hug the bottom),the female on the right under the log during the activity, and of course the main activity and actions of the azul and orino male....Just a little while ago the male orino started getting what looks like a hump forming and the azul already has a small one..hard to see with my shatty video cam,but you will see it
enjoy the vid...please comment also...anything you see that you find interesting let me know as I may have missed it...remember there is more vid with alot more stuff coming
