Orino: Got beat a little by a dat at least a month ago, eats wonderfully everyday, growing steadily, no problems. Is actually the most aggressive of the bunch. Colors are fine. 2x a week water changes, parameters are fine.

Question: The dorsal is still split! he has 3 spikes instead of the normal "wave" shape, Is it gonna heal up ever?

First pic, fish on the left side. He is at least twice this size now but still a split dorsal.... :(

Any thoughts or experiences are welcome.

hmm i have yet to see a split fin on my cichla that doesnt heal. should be ok, just give it time, i think :)

cool, thanks j. kinda what i assumed but just thought i'd ask.

this happened to me too. id wait another month. if it doesnt heal after that i dont think it ever will. one of my bigger hybrid bass got a split in its dorsal fin when it was around 4 inches. now its 9 inch with the same split in his dorsal fin which never healed up. ive been thinking about it and it may heal up when it gets a little bigger, maybe past a foot long? im not sure though.

This might sound crazy to some but ...... I had a large fish that had a small hole in its anal fin that never healed (months and months). I couldn't stand it, so I took it out and sliced against the bones of that region, creating a split. It healed up perfectly!!

I didn't sedate, but you could. By the way, the fish was 14" long. You could wait till the fish is larger before you do it.
