mrdee - Glad to see you back in the cichla game.
I have R.M. Metas myself from TUIC. They were light in color when I had them in a grow out and when I put them in with the rest of the pbass in the bigger tank, all three of them turned Really dark, almost black even. They were in the bigger tank for a few weeks but were getting bullied pretty back so I took them out this weekend and put them back in the grow out tank.
I took about 5 mins before they lost all the dark colors and went back to the beige (normal) looking color.
I don't think all cichla are created equal as far as colors. I think some (even from the same batch) will have darker colors than others, just genetics.
That same fish (the darker one) may lighten up if he were to be in another tank with a different hierchy.
I've seen fish sold to others that never look the same as if it were in the original owners tank.

I have been in the fish hobby for over ten years. I started off with 13 tanks and now with the way the economy is going and job losses, its hard to stay on top of the game. Thanks for the reply, maybe its just this one cichla that is dark. Once in a while he will turn a little lighter, but most of the time, dark.

Anyway, I was qouted $1400 for just the tank 220g Acrylic
It's more than what I want to spend, but not to often do I see what I want "used" around here.

Yep, its hard to find a good deal, especially up here. The best tanks and deals are down in CA

1400-1700 give or take you can get a 400g tank
