Ornate at top of tank

My little ornate which is about 5 inches likes to stay at the top of the tank, is this normal?

yes when polypterus are babies they do this in the wild so they can catch frogs, bugs, snails etc..., So if yours is wild caught that is almost guaranteed. Even if not i still have my baby sen 5" CB that likes to do that.

Awesome it's a planted tank and he loves to just chill out in the floating plants at top and snatch up any bloodworms I give him first

When I introduce any new Bichir to my tank, they seem to float around up top until they get settled in and lay with the rest of the group.
