ornate bichir PH question

Hey all
I've a 8 inch Ornate in my community tank, I want to move him to the 125 I just set up, but I originally set up the tank with Tanganikan cichlids in mind.. do you think the bichir would tolerate the high PH or should I just leave well enough alone and hope another big tank lands in my lap before he outgrows the 55?

what is the pH? once the ornate is fully grown, it might be able to eat the others and will require a bigger tank than a 18" wide 125

the 55 he's currently in is at about 7.2. the 125 will be running at about 8.5 to 9.0 for the tangs.

I'd slowy raise the pH of the 55 before the move so it can adjust to the new values slowly over time.Then introduce him into 125-Anne

if slightly acclimatized the ornate will manage this without harm ... but what's about your cichlids?
The ornate will grow fast - i had an ornate, got him with 20cm. After two months he grew up to 24cm! Then he began to feed his tankmates - i inherited a dozen Jack Dempseys from a past friend - also the biggest ones, a female with 13cm and a male with 15cm! The ornate teared them up ... no survivors. The only exception was a Sajica. He survived due to the decision to give the ornate to a friend with two female ornates.
This ornate had get enough to eat ... he grew up in five months to 30cm!
I tried to distract him with goldfish and juvenile Nigrofasciatus (a present from a petshop) ... the only result: He grew up faster ...

I would never keep bichirs - especially ornates - and cichlids together!!!

aright sounds like I'm gunna have to keep an eye out for another large aquarium. so far the ornate has been pretty well behaved but I've also kept him pleasantly plump. If it makes a difference I was planning on keeping him with a school of Frontosas and Some T. Moorii. with the hope that both the size of the fronts and the speed of the Moorii would keep me with a well populated aquarium.

don't forget: Ornates are creatures of the night! Most fish will keep caution in the daylight but in the night the ornate is king of doom ...
Mine killed them all at night.
