Where The Wild Things Are
Sorry looking at some of the threads cant seem to answer my questions What is their growth rate on them? lets say 3"-12" how long would that take? and Can they be pellet trained? i dont want anything to do with feeders ecept for a treat once in a great while thanks for time please reply!

MY EXPERIENCE WITH ORANTES THEY WILL BASICALLY EAT ANYTHING SHRIMP,FEEDERS,BEEF HEART,FILLETS, PELLETS ETC...3-12" I WOULD SAY 8-9 MONTHS DEPENDING ON HIS EATING HABITS

alright thanks man how do they do with gars and aros?
What species are they?

Mine ate pellets after 1 day of starving lol. fat ass couldn't take it.

But he was small. If you buy one large, you will have a harder time getting them off real food. but its still not difficult. Its not like a Gar or anything.

I bought mine at like 1.5-2 inches on July 26th I think, and it has doubled in size at least. Grows much faster than my sens have and is outgrowing my del.

My ornate has been the slowest growing of my polys, I have 2 sen and a del which have grown much quicker, but he is only around an inch or two shorter, I bought them all around the same time, give or take a month, and they were roughly the same size, they've all doubled their size since early spring, but I think a lot has to do with how often you clean the tank, how often you feed them, and genetics.

I agree with famous323,thats sounds about the same growth rate as mine,he was four inches when i got him on the 5th of july this year and hes roughly 8inches now and very fat!

cheers steve

growth rate can vary alot because most are captive bred.
most ive had were slower growers than any other poly.
it also depends on water changes, feeding etc.
i'd say 10-14 mths to get from 3-12 inches.
and pellet training is easy.
