I'm now getting back into keeping fish and saw an ornate bichir for sale. I got a couple questions. I currently have a 55 gal. and pretty sure it couldn't stay in it forever, but could use it until I get a larger tank. The bichir is not nearly full grown yet. I'm guessing its only about 6 in. long right now. I have heard they get 2 1/2 to 3 ft. long. What is the minimum size tank I can keep one in comfortably?

Sorry forgot to ask what other fish other than other bichirs could I keep with it? I'm guessing some cichlids would work?

I have been seriously been thinking on getting a 180 but need to pay off some bills. Would it be okay for it to stay in a 180 without having to get a bigger tank later?

I think a minimum of 180 is good. a 240 would be great.

180 would be plenty, pretty much any tankmate you like as they're a very peaceful poly, I've got fish as small as 3" in with a 16" one and he shows no interest in them. would get a couple of other polys to keep with him though as i've found them to be more active the more polys you have with them.

If I can get a good deal I might just get more than one. I was thinking maybe an albino palmas with it too. Not sure what other fish may put with it but might put some gourami's or cichilds.

stay away from aggressive cichlids, and the albino palamas is most likely a senegul, an albino palamas is unheard of.

I had no idea those got so big. Thanks for the info!
