I just got an ornate birchir. Its about eight inches. I have senegal birchirs and I was wondering if they require the same amount of care as the senegals do? what do I feed them too. Kinda Noobie.

Same as sen but grow bigger, and hide more, and can be more agressive. Feed a high quality pellet for good health and color, feed talapia for bulking up.

I had an albino. It ate pellet food, blood worms, feeders, pretty much anything even resembling food

Itll eat anything it can fit in its mouth be careful with smaller fish

My ornate is 18" now, and I give him the same care as my other bichirs. Thankfully, so far I've never had any aggression issues with him. I've had him for 3 years, since he was about 4-5". He lives in a tank with senegals, various catfish, a ck, silver dollars and a few other things. He's a happy, easy guy as long as the lights are on. If the lights go out, he heads out to taste silver dollars. He can't eat them, so he catches them and lets them flap around awhile, then lets them go. I suppose given enough time, he could. So, I set up dark places in my tank, and instead of doing a natural light cycle on that one, I keep light always in the center where the silver dollars hang out, and dark on both ends where the predators hang out. It keeps the peace and looks fantastic.
