I've owned one of these bad boys before when he was a little over a ft and made it to about a 1 1/2 ft before he passed away a few weeks ago...being that I never raised a little one-which I have an eye on at the moment at a lfs...he's about 7in and $59 which I think is a great price on this guy...the questions that I have is that after researching it seems that the growth rate on birchirs is kinda slow I guess right? And whats the average size these guys get?
Thanks
John

Yeah it's quite fast in the 1st few months, then it's painfully slow after that haha. My ornate seemed to be stuck at the 9inch mark forever before hitting 10 recently about a month ago. Had him since he was like 4-5inches for about 1yr 8+mths?

how often were you feeding him? and what was the diet feeders? thanks geno

I can't remember when I first started out, but I was always quite consistent almost 1 feeding every night when the lights are off. Sometimes I would deliberately skip 1 day or 2 when I was lazy haha, but also to space out the feedings cos sometimes he didnt eat and I didn't wana accumulate leftovers.

I fed him mostly Hikari goldfish sinking pellets, ghost shrimp, baby catfish (he loves them!) and now I'm using Hikari massivore pellets. Tried feeder guppies and goldfish but they were of poor quality and many died. I'm never getting gups and goldfish feeders from THAT place again *fumes*
