Hey there MFK,

Are your Bichirs aggressive? I've notice my Delhezi started sitting in one corner of the tank, instead of the heavy planted side that he usually does. Ive then noticed the other day that the ornate fin nips the back tail of the delhezi. He might be sitting in the opposite tank to avoid the ornate. is this usual behavior? I only have 2 bichirs in my tank. would i need more to spread out this aggression? or is there another way to get the ornate to stop being a bully? Please give me your opinions

What size tank

It would seem that orantes can become territorial it most likely likes that planted side and wan't it to its self i would buy more plants or spread them out to give the delhezi a place to hang out adding more bichirs wouldn't hurt if you have the tank space

i have a 120 gallon tank. I am planning to add more plants to the tank. but the ornate doesnt just fin nip the delhezi when he's on the planted side. the ornate goes out of its way to do it.

I am plannin to add another delhezi in my grow out tank onces he's big enough since ive read the threat of bichirs eatting each other at disturbing sizes. and maybe a senegal since they are active.

are those the only solutions to stop this behavior?

I added a 12" ornate in with my 9" palmas and with in days the ornate was nipping at the palmas. I think you need more than two to spread any aggression, and it would be best to grow them out in a group together.

would 3 or4 work out fine? i have a 120 gallon and i dont really want it to be a bichir tank. I want to have other things in it such as dats and arowanas

Its not really a yes/no question, could depend on so many factors, a big one being the personality of the fish. I sold a 12" tyre track eel and two big talking catfish to a friend with a 12" ornate, in killed the eel over night and was having a go at the cats even with their big spikes and armor!!

wow.. i didnt know polys were that aggressive. it it all species or only ornates? I hope mine dont turn out that way
