?
hey guys!!!
I have a small ornate in a 10 gallon. He is around 4 inches. what are these guys growth rate. I know the tank is small but I need to get him to alteast 5inches for him to live with my dlehezi and arowana in the 125 gal. The other option is the pond which is around 650 gallon but feeding him would be a challenge. The inhabitants in the pond are 3 koi, loaches and angelfish so I doubt they would be a threat

If you power feed and really keep up on maintenance he might be pushing 5" in a week or two. As juvies they grow relatively fast. Once he is big enough to go into the 125g I would put him in there right away. The more space, food, and maintenance you give him the faster he'lol grow (genetics permitting).

Thanks bro:)!!! I feed him shrimp twice everyday. I change the water every 2 days to make sure the water is pristine. Should I keep the tank bare bottom or add substrate and plants because he is always hiding behind the filter. I think he is scared, he rarely moves but eats well.

You are going to get mixed opinions about the bare bottom or subtrate personally I would do a thin layer of sand, as for the plants the ornate will maybe fill more secure, but probably will still hide this varies with individual fish not all ornates will hide. The most important part is that the ornate is eating:) Add more food items to ornates feeding schedule. Btw as Dr.B stated the juvie ornate will grow fast , with the wc's and varied diet ornate will be in the 125 in no time. I have a female ornate that was barely 2 inches when I bought her now she is pushing 17 inches:).

Thank you;)!!! Sand is a good idea, I will add a few plants, nothing much I can do to a 10gal lol. I would love to see your ornate. How old is she? My ornate seems to be nocturnal and loves to eat at night. Hope I can bulk him up and get him to 5 inches in a week or two

Tbh don't know the exact time , but do know it was fast, don't worry about your ornate it will grow just as big or even larger:)

Haha I wish:D The only problem is he has to become big enough not to be eaten by my 8'' rtg.
