i just got my new ornate about a week ago now and he just will not eat. if i drop his silver sides in the tank my 2 smaller bichers eat them and he wont take to spot feeding at any hour. help im a little worred that he mite eat my ciclids he fully can.

Keep the lights off that is my guess or close the blinds and turn out the lights. Feed beefheat thats what I started mine. They love it. Gradually have more light in the room thats what I did now when I turn on the light they come out of hiding waiting for their breakfast!

his tank is right in the middle of my living room i cant realy keep it dark all the time. any other ideas i think he mite just be a little set off buy the new tank and fish he had been alone for 2 years and now he is in a comunity tank

He just needs to settle in and feel more secure. During the day,put a blanket over most of the tank, for a few days. Works like a charm. My Ornate would only eat with the lights off at first too and never come out of his corner, but now he chows down with the rest of them!!

mine always like middle of the night feedings... they are more of a nocturnal fsh

He won't starve himself to death if food is available. He will eventually eat, just stop worrying.

IMO, don't feed at night. Feed like always... feed when YOU want to feed. He will get over w/e is making him shy and come up to eat. The survival instinct is too strong. No animal will kill themselves because they are stubborn or shy.

mine did that as well and it just took some time before he started eating regularly. just keep trying and he'll eat sooner or later! good luck

he ate last night i fed him around 1:30 and he liked the shrimp pellets i just didnt want him to eat the little ciclids in there they are like 10 times smaller so they are food to him.

I hardly ever see my Ornate eat. He has grown a lot though. As mentioned, they scavenge at night, so you have nothing to worry about.
