So I went in to pick up my two 15" red belly pacu for my pond on Tuesday from the LFS I go to alot and I ended up picking up a 3" ornate bichir also. Paid 40 for him so not that bad. Anyway I was just wondering what is the growth rate on these guys I know that they are slow growers but i was just wondering how much do they grow a month. Oh and he is in a 55 with a channel catfish and he is accepting hikari sinking carnivore pellets.

Good food, good water and a large tank should see him growing fairly fast at that size. I'd suggest moving him on from the 55g to something bigger by the time he hits 10" if you want to keep the good growth on a roll. IME bichirs often have a growth spurt when moved to a larger tank.
I'm on Ornate #3...first one got traded in while the other one past away from some weird bloat. Both of those grew really slow. The current one I got was around 2" to 11" and I just realized that he's now just a little over a year in my tank now
Mine grew like weed! I had her from about 2" in Jan. and before she jumped the tank (RIP) she was 8" two weeks ago
very fast growth rate typically, can easily grow an inch to an inch and a half or more monthly, only thing id be considered with is the channel cat doing its best to swallow the poor guy
