Acquired one of these and in the future am planning in putting it the main SA cic tank, at the mo hes in with the feeders(guppies). He's say betwwen 3-4" just wondering the growth rate of these ? as if he goes in the main tank Texas will eat him.

yup takes alout a year to get to a foot, so you'll be growing him/her out for a while. the cichlids will nip and pick on your ornate if you put him too soon, but i would avoid the combination, but its just me, based on past experiences. enjoy!
Thanks for the quick responses, one thing thou could you elaborrate on these bad experiences? I've done the checks and they seemed quite suitable.
