Jen thanks for the response but i need a little more imput to make double sure. I have an 8" ornate that swims with an arched back. He never had this problem until i switched tanks on him. Three months ago i moved him into a 125 from a 40 and from that point on he developed the arched back. I'm not sure if it was a growth spurt that messed him up or a nutrition defficency or even just a deformation that took a little to actually happen. I really would like to hear what you guys have to say about that. Thanks guys/gals!

Is it definitely an arched back i.e. is it arched when he is on bottom,or is it just when he swims?Ornates have a habit of going up to the surface with the front half nearly perfectly horizontal and the back half pointing down giving impression of spine problem.Ours does it alot, moving to a bigger tank may make him behave like this because he is more wary with further to swim to the surface. If it is a deformity make sure he has a varied diet and many fish with arched backs will straighten with time, like our gars have done.

What else is in the tank?
if its an injury it might work itself out if its a deformity theres not much you can do as long as he's eating and swimming about I wouldn't worry to much-Anne

it's definitely not an injury, thanks for the imput Anne. As for, if his back is arched all the time or not, it has a def arch to it when he's relaxed and not swimming but not as bad as when he does swim. i hope it does work itself out because it's kind of annoying to look at when my 2 other birchirs backs are normal. i still love him though. thanks guys!
