I've got a 135 with a bunch of african cichlids from 2-4" in it. Would it be alright to throw in my 4" ornate? There is already a full grown senegal in there, but this is my first ornate and am not sure about their temperment/hunting as they get bigger.. Thanks.

ornate bichirs are mean to other bichir.

Ornates are typically mean to other ornates, but not typically other polys or other fish. However, it will almost definitely eat the cichlids once it gets bigger. Honestly, I'm surprised your sen hasn't yet tried to eat some, at least the smaller cichlids.

I am shocked that this is working at all. I was under the impression that (at least Mbuna) african cichlids suffered from Malawi Bloat when meat is introduced to their diet. Bichirs love meat!

How do you feed your Senegal without bloating your cichlids?

OSen eats sinking cichlid gold pellets, and is super healthy. I never worried about it, he lets them swim all around him, it even swims around with them. Everything in the tank is mixed malawi with the exception of a bleekeri and frontosa, which were musts. I just figured that when the ornate is atleast a foot, all the fish should be atleast 5". As far sen and ornate, I am not worried about that in the least bit... Just thought that maybe since the sen was so good with them now, the small ornate would be around them growing with it, and possibly work.

I have had mbuna's in my poly tank for 6months and thought everything would be fine until I started seeing them drop of one at a time. I just think the wild will come out of them eventually
