hey guys I hope you can help on this one. I have a senagal bicher which Ive had since he was 1.5" so I thought Id take my chance at raising an ornate since my local FS has them at about the same size but he wants 25.00 for the ornate so since Ive been a regular at his store I ask for a discount and he wont give me one then I spotted an ornate with no fins looks like they were torn off becouse he has scar like tissue with red coloration on the knobs that his fins would be growing from. So I talk him into giving me this one but he claims that the fins will grow back is he just giving me the fish becouse it has no hope or will they grow back. I know when damaged, fish can grow scales and parts of fins back but the entire fin is missing on both sides and I dont know but to me it looks like a birth deformity. what do you think I can take pix if it will help.

If its not a birth deformity, and you think they have been damaged to make them how they are, they should grow back, note should so not a definate yes. :)

I got it for free, the thing is I dont know if he gave it too cuz eventually it will die like maybe it can get an infection if that happens to be an open wound or if hes really giving me a fish that worth it. I will get the pix as soon as I can the thing is some of my tanks are still at my moms so I wont be able to get them right now but I will post them as soon as I have them, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

i bought one a few weeks ago and had the same problem. my ornates fins are growing back just fine now.added a little melafix too the tank just to be safe though

Keep the water as aclean as possible, add melafix as a preventitive and watch for any red streaks in the body or other finnage. If it young enough and it was battle damage theres a very good chance they will regenerate-Anne

If it's spines broken, that should 100% recovered, but, not guarantee a perfect shape if water condition is not good. If it's severely damaged (bone broken), then I doubt it'll grow back normal.

it swims fine with its tail only so it cant hoover like the others so most of the time it sits at the bottom until it wants to eat, there are no other damages to it other than that. I had already done the melafix treatment, that stuff is great. Thanks for all the replies I will still try to get the pix tomorrow, today I just worked too late and didnt have time, but definatly thanks.
