Ornatum Pair

Male is pushing 9" and the female is about 6.5. Probably shouldnt refer to them as a pair because they've never bred for me, but they are extremely friendly with each other, more than I would ever expect them to be. This cell phone will never do their colors justice, but I wanted to start this thread to keep track of any possible breeding they might do.

Very nice pair!!!! So the male must be the bigger one and the female the smaller one.
I have 5 of these but are still in the 4 to 6 inch range. I was told that the male would get more spangling on the face than the female. Yours seem to be the other way around. Any ideas? Maybe that's only during breeding colors, not sure.
The male seems to have more red on the dorsal and tail, that seems right.
How long did it take to grow them to this size?

Very good point. Always assumed that the smaller one, which is essentially black and yellow, was the female. And the bigger, more colorful, red, green, blue, and yellow, was male. But definitely more spangles on the smaller ones cheek and almost none on the bigger one.

Beautiful beautiful! I love these fish and also have 8 juvies growing out! Eat like pigs. At that size are they still great eaters?

Thank you! Yes, they are pretty savage eaters. I feed once a day, 3 or 4 times a week. They get pretty rough with each other during feedings.

Seems like forever lol. A couple of years, at least. Not a real excessive feeding schedule, though.
