Hi,

Does anyone here keep O's and Aros together? My local lfs has a few large O's for sale and one is really huge and I want to get him to put in with my 22'' black aro and 13-14'' Id shark. Any suggestions. The tank is 230 gallons. Thanks for any help.

i used to have my 14" arow with 4 4" oscars, see how agressive they are first :D i dont see why it wont work.

I had an 7" oscar and a 6" arowana the arowana got owned.. Now i have 2 8" silvers and a 3" red oscar and the oscar still picks on them.

Oscars like to start fights but when fish fight back the oscar is a puss:D

Here is another question that really is determined by a variety of variables. I think the two most important variables are space and size.

I certainly believe that the arowana will need to bigger than the oscar, and the aro probably would have to be at least 12" before I would try it, since they're a little too timid when they are smaller.

If you try to do this in a smaller tank, say 75 or 90 gallons, then forget it, the oscars are not going to feel like they have enough space and will likely harass the aro till it's gone. But give them something 180 gallons or larger and I doubt that you will have a problem.

I currently have a 16" aro with two oscars, one 10" and one 8" in a 200 and while the oscars will once in a while bump the aro, they never do him any harm.

I agree with blacktip. Keep in mind oscar behavior can also change drastically with the age and size of the fish. They can live in peace with tankmates for long periods of time, then one day they turn on everything in the tank. However, I don't see why a large aro couldn't beat an oscar into submission if it wanted to. Oscars are rather clumsy.:D

i say it depends on the oscar. cichlids are intelligent and have tons of personality. people said i could never keep an oscar with discus, but it worked because i have a very mellow oscar since he was raised with discus. i think you should watch the oscar to see how it behaves first.

I agree with blacktip.

I keep a 14" oscar and a 11-12" oscar with a 24" silver.

i kept 2 3" oscars with 2 silver aro's. no problems here. ill be moving my bros 2 oscars in with my aro's soon enough. it works!
