I want to screw a piece of OSB to a piece of driftwood to keep it on bottom(the substrate would be on top of the OSB).Anybody know if there would be any harm in this.

I would think the tannins in the wood would be undesirable, and the glue potentially harmful. I would not do it in my tank.

Just use monofilament to tie any rock to it, make sure it is compatible. Lava rock is good. Eventually the wood will stay down. HA

If it will eventually stay down, I could just leave it in a bucket of water for awhile since it will be a couple of weeks before I begin the particular tank I wish to use it in.Right?

Or, any piece of acrylic can be used as an anchor plate beneath your sand bed. Beware of your fish digging your sand up though... I watched one of my stumps head for the surface in a hurry one day!

... Lava rock is good. ...

Pumice is the only rock that can float. Guess where pumice comes from...The same place lava does.

All lava rock contains gas pockets, up to the point that it is classified as pumice. A better choice of rock would be a slab of marble. It is soft enough to cut with a wet saw and brittle enough to be fractured (cut) with a swift blow of a hammer (using a chisle makes cleaner cuts). It can be purchased at any Gnome Depot.
